For events such as conventions, banquets, award ceremonies or graduations, I typically:

• Pipe as guests arrive and are seated for the event
• Pipe in head table or platform guests
• Pipe in award recipients

If the event is indoors, I can wear the full dress uniform shown here.  For outdoor events, I wear a less formal uniform more suited to the local weather.

It is best to plan your event so the piper plays no more than fifteen to twenty minutes at a time.  The bagpipe is a loud and stirring instrument and audiences get restless.
